Highlights:
What to Expect on this North Tanzania Safari
Depart after breakfast for the 2-hour journey along the edge of the Great Rift Valley and into the baobab-speckled woodland and grassland habitats of the Tarangire Ecosystem.
The Tarangire River meanders through the heart of the ecosystem, which has a diverse geological fingerprint encompassing nine vegetation zones interspersed with rocky outcrops and hills.
Game viewing is especially rich here during the dry season June-October when the river becomes the lifeline for all forms of wildlife, including elephant, zebra, buffalo, giraffe and there is a good chance of sighting lions and perhaps even leopard. Dinner and overnight: Lemala Mpingo Ridge, Tarangire.
Your guide will arrange a wake-up call at 5.30 am and at 6.00 am we will head into the park to visit the wildlife after a busy hunting night.
Dawn shows a spectacular pink and orange blush across the sky outlining the old baobab trees, and we can settle down at a peaceful riverside lookout point to observe the local wildlife and their morning rituals. Return to our camp for breakfast – 9:00 am.
A leisurely departure after breakfast as we travel via Ngorongoro on our next journey deep into the heart of the Serengeti. Before you leave Ngorongoro Conservation Area, your guide will take you to visit an authentic Maasai boma and allow you to meet members of this mysterious, noble tribe up close.
Throughout the safari, you will see plenty of wildlife, and after a long full day game drive, you will arrive at your camp. Dinner and overnight: Lemala Ewanjan, Seronera.
Sleep in today and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, or get up early for another amazing journey through Africa’s greatest wilderness.
You can arrange with your guide whether you want to go on a full day game drive with picnic lunch or opt for a morning and afternoon game drive with a hot lunch at the camp. You set the pace today…
Regardless of the season, the central Serengeti region is always abundant with wildlife, and many lions and other large mammals make this area their permanent home.
You might also want to take a trip to the Serengeti’s excellent Visitor Centre to see the friendly rock hyraxes that lounge and flutter about on the kopjes everywhere while admiring the well-curated exhibits and learning a lot about the Serengeti ecosystem, its inhabitants and migration patterns. Dinner and overnight: Lemala Ewanjan, Seronera.
Take one last morning game drive before waving goodbye to the wildlife of the Serengeti plains before heading to Ngorongoro. Your guide will be sure to keep his or her ear to the ground if the opportunity arises to spot some important predators and other smaller predators along the way.
Drive up the steep slope and on to the heart of the Ngorongoro Highlands for your overnight stay. Dinner and overnight: Lemala Ngorongoro, Ngorongoro crater rim.
Breakfast at 6.30 a.m. to arrive early at the crater rim. We will descend into the crater to enjoy the microcosm of life in the caldera. The crater walls are forested, but a four-wheel-drive vehicle will take you down to this primeval paradise of forest, lake, river, swamp, and plain, which provides shelter for about 20,000 animals.
There is no need to introduce the crater, as it is the largest intact caldera in the world and is a World Heritage Site. It is one of the most spectacular sights. With the exception of impalas and giraffes, almost every mammal species on the plain lives, or visits the crater floor – a true African Eden. After several hours of wildlife viewing, we will drive back to Arusha.
