Expect to see a variety of animals such as impala, elephants, dikdik, bushbuck, hippos, zebra, giraffe, leopard, buffalo, and much more. The park is famous for the elusive tree-climbing lions that inhabit the woodland between the lake and the Rift Valley. It is also an ornithologists’ paradise and is host to over 400 species of birds. Dinner and overnight: Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.
After a leisurely breakfast, go for a tour at a local coffee farm before departing to Serengeti national park. Arrive at your camp in time for lunch and some rest before going for an evening game drive. The Serengeti is probably the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. More than 35 species of plain animals – zebra, wildebeest, eland, giraffe, and others are found here. And so for the big five: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino.
Serengeti is also the staging zone for one of the most spectacular events in the natural world – the annual migration of wildebeest. They are followed closely by the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. The Serengeti also has over 500 species of birds. Dinner and overnight: Serengeti Embalakai Authentisches Camp.
Today let’s awake before dawn and get out on the plains to visit the inhabitants of Serengeti as they finish up their business of the previous night’s hunt. In the dawn light, you may come across lions feasting on their kill and spotted hyenas loping around looking to salvage some tender morsels. Silver backed jackals and bat-eared foxes might make an appearance in the still quiet of the early hours.
Return to the lodge for brunch and a welcome siesta, before setting off in the long rays of the mid-afternoon to watch the Serengeti day drawing to a close in its haunting golden light – fabulous for budding and seasoned photographers to capture some moody, dreamy shots of the Endless Plains – Siringit in the Maasai language. Dinner and overnight: Serengeti Embalakai Authentisches Camp.
After a leisurely breakfast, head out for one last morning game drive in the Serengeti. This will be a slow-paced game drive as you head out of the Serengeti, drive up the steep Rift Valley escarpment, and on into the Ngorongoro Highlands.
Look out for the wildlife and Masaai homesteads along the way. A picnic lunch box will be provided. You will arrive at your accommodation in time for an afternoon rest. The next day will be an early morning rise. Dinner and overnight: Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge.
After breakfast, make an early descent into the crater for an amazing game viewing opportunity in this magnificent natural amphitheatre. The Ngorongoro Crater or Caldera, which is the correct term, is over 20kms across and around 600 meters deep, featuring grassland, forest, and the soda lake called Lake Makat.
Ngorongoro Crater is famous for having the Big 5 – Buffalo, Black Rhino, Elephant, Lion, and Leopard, but also supports a year-round resident population of a variety of wildlife such as cheetah, zebra, hippos, serval cats, hyena, wildebeest and many more. Later in the evening, return to Arusha.
